Corporate Social Responsibility and Business Ethics

General Description

Although not new in the developed part of the world, the concepts of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and ethical leadership are making first steps in gaining popularity in developing countries, with Armenia being not an exception. Nowadays many Armenians can hardly explain what constitutes to be a good corporate citizen, which is quite often confused with engaging in charitable activities. It is obvious that any for-profit entity is mainly concerned with earning and accumulating wealth, but the current worldwide trend is that this is not the only determinant of their existence and long-term success. More and more businesses realize that they do not operate in a vacuum; continuous interaction with different stakeholders is critical, with serious considerations for the environment, economically vulnerable populations, and the society as a whole.

In light of the above, it is therefore paramount to raise ethical competence and integrity standards of local managers for them to succeed in today's competitive and highly demanding world. With this in mind, the given training is aimed at familiarizing the audience with the theoretical framework for corporate social responsibility and business ethics, addressing the issues of its practical application, and exploring its contributions and limitations to the society.

"I-Citizen Advise Bureau" project

                               "My City" Advise Bureau project

Since February 2010, Civic Development and Partnership foundation (CDPF) and Counterpart International have initiated and with the financial support of the Norwegian Government are implementing “I-Citizen” project which aims to increase citizen participation in policymaking at the Yerevan City level through citizen empowerment, improved citizen access to the Yerevan City Council and setting up institutional mechanisms for participation by providing phone and face to face consultation and information to the center’s clients.

Within the project “I-Citizen” Information-Advise Center was established by CDPF that aims to inform the citizens on their rights and obligations and facilitate the establishment of citizen-community and citizen-state dialogue.

For that purpose the Center provides free support to Yerevan habitants on their community and condominium related issues, also on public utility related issues, assistance in writing letters and appeals to the city, collaboration with condominiums and public utility agencies on issues that affect communities on a daily basis. Being secured with highly professional lawyers and advisers and necessary equipment, the Center follows openness, justice, transparency and unbiased approach principles and is open for any person that needs advice or support in solution of his/her city-related issues. The experienced advisers through phone and face to face consultation and information assist the clients to find the appropriate addressee for the solution of their problem, assist in writing letters and appeals, and also provide follow up activity to ensure that the letter and appeal procedures are in line with the law.

Opening its doors in March 2010, the Center has addressed more than 480 appeals, 73% of which had a successful ending. The best evidence of the Center’s activity is the growing number of applicants, which increases with 15-20 more applicants per month. During the 7 months of its operation, “My City” Advice-Consultation Center has gained constant clients, who satisfied with the answer to their questions; again and again apply to the Center for the legal consultation.

Being secured with highly professional lawyers-advisers and necessary equipment, the Center follows openness, justice, transparency and unbiased approach principles and is open for any person who needs advice or support in the solution of his/her Yerevan city-related issues.

The Center is located at 11/5 Proshyan str. and working from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 18:00. The Center is provided with 080 001 008 free hotline.
