Corporate Social Responsibility and Business Ethics

General Description

Although not new in the developed part of the world, the concepts of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and ethical leadership are making first steps in gaining popularity in developing countries, with Armenia being not an exception. Nowadays many Armenians can hardly explain what constitutes to be a good corporate citizen, which is quite often confused with engaging in charitable activities. It is obvious that any for-profit entity is mainly concerned with earning and accumulating wealth, but the current worldwide trend is that this is not the only determinant of their existence and long-term success. More and more businesses realize that they do not operate in a vacuum; continuous interaction with different stakeholders is critical, with serious considerations for the environment, economically vulnerable populations, and the society as a whole.

In light of the above, it is therefore paramount to raise ethical competence and integrity standards of local managers for them to succeed in today's competitive and highly demanding world. With this in mind, the given training is aimed at familiarizing the audience with the theoretical framework for corporate social responsibility and business ethics, addressing the issues of its practical application, and exploring its contributions and limitations to the society.

Journalist Contest on Migration Issues

The Armenian branch of “People in Need” Czech NGO and the Armenian UN Association in the scope of the “Reinforcement of Management of Migratory flows in Armenia” project sponsored by the European Commission and the Czech Government announce a journalist contest on Migration issues.

The aim of the contest is to unite the endeavors of journalists throughout Armenia in the migration sphere encouraging those who raise and cover migration concerns.

Media representatives and free-lancing journalists from Yerevan and all the marzes of Armenia are welcome to participate in the contest. Those willing to participate in the journalist contest should submit a TV/Radio program, article dedicated to various problems of migration broadcasted and/or published in the period from January from November 2010.

The Jury consisted of specialists and journalists of the sphere will select three winners in the fol1owing nominations:

  • the Best TV program,
  • the Best Radio program
  • the Best Article.
In each nomination different encouraging prizes, certificates of appreciation and money awards are established.
  • First prize - 180'000 AMD
  • Second prize – 90'000 AMD
  • Third prize – 45'000 AMD

Selection criteria

  • TV/Radio programs, articles should be broadcasted and/or published in the period from January to November 2010.
  • Programs/articles should contain 350 to 500 words and be comprehensible for the society.
  • Programs/articles should be submitted in Armenian. Journalism ethics and authorial attitude should exist.
  • Programs/articles should provide complete information on the issue based on true grounds.

For the participation in the journalist contest you should complete the application form and with the prepared programs/articles submit it to the Armenian UN Association at the following address: Yerevan, Israyelyan 39/2, 1st floor. Application form is also placed in www.migrant.am website.Newspaper/internet articles and the application form can be submitted electronically to GNanyan@gmail.com.

Submission deadline is 10 November, 2010, 18:00.

The contest will take place on 18 December 2010, on International Migrant Day.
