Corporate Social Responsibility and Business Ethics

General Description

Although not new in the developed part of the world, the concepts of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and ethical leadership are making first steps in gaining popularity in developing countries, with Armenia being not an exception. Nowadays many Armenians can hardly explain what constitutes to be a good corporate citizen, which is quite often confused with engaging in charitable activities. It is obvious that any for-profit entity is mainly concerned with earning and accumulating wealth, but the current worldwide trend is that this is not the only determinant of their existence and long-term success. More and more businesses realize that they do not operate in a vacuum; continuous interaction with different stakeholders is critical, with serious considerations for the environment, economically vulnerable populations, and the society as a whole.

In light of the above, it is therefore paramount to raise ethical competence and integrity standards of local managers for them to succeed in today's competitive and highly demanding world. With this in mind, the given training is aimed at familiarizing the audience with the theoretical framework for corporate social responsibility and business ethics, addressing the issues of its practical application, and exploring its contributions and limitations to the society.

Invitation for Participation

Every year in the threshold of Independence Day, on 19 th of September Civil Society Day is celebrated in Armenia.

The objective of the Civil Society Day celebration is to give a birth to a new tradition and to disseminate the idea of civil society among citizens and make them an integral part of this idea. That’s why every year the holiday carries “We Are the Civil Society” slogan.

Fist time ever in Armenia Civil Society Day was celebrated in 2009. Civic Development and Partnership Foundation (CDPF) and its partners have organized photo contest and exhibition named “Civil Society through my Eyes”, accompanied by a concert program in Yerevan, at Lovers’ Park. Different civil society organizations, state and international organizations, as well as ordinary citizens participated in this festive event.

In 2010 festive events were devoted to volunteerism since it is one of the cornerstones of civil society which is aimed at promoting active civic participation. It is remarkable that in 2010 the number of organizers, participants and visitors has incredibly increased, in parallel with this, the geography of the Civil Society Celebration has also widened including not only Yerevan, but also Goris and Armavir. This comes to prove the need of the holiday celebration and recognition of September 19 as a state holiday.

2011 will not be an exemption and this year the Armenian citizens will again have the opportunity to speak about civil society in Armenia and its achievements.

CDPF invites all interested bodies and individuals to join the CS Day Organizational Committee to participate in planning and implementing Civil Society Day celebration in 2011.

If you are interested in participation, please send information of your organization and contact person (name, surname, phone, e-mail) to maria@cdpf.am. We will be glad to discuss with you the proposed ideas and your participation in the organization of the event.

We are waiting for your response and interesting ideas till May 25, 2011.

For more details, please call Maria Poghosyan, tel: 586012 & 586013.
