Corporate Social Responsibility and Business Ethics

General Description

Although not new in the developed part of the world, the concepts of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and ethical leadership are making first steps in gaining popularity in developing countries, with Armenia being not an exception. Nowadays many Armenians can hardly explain what constitutes to be a good corporate citizen, which is quite often confused with engaging in charitable activities. It is obvious that any for-profit entity is mainly concerned with earning and accumulating wealth, but the current worldwide trend is that this is not the only determinant of their existence and long-term success. More and more businesses realize that they do not operate in a vacuum; continuous interaction with different stakeholders is critical, with serious considerations for the environment, economically vulnerable populations, and the society as a whole.

In light of the above, it is therefore paramount to raise ethical competence and integrity standards of local managers for them to succeed in today's competitive and highly demanding world. With this in mind, the given training is aimed at familiarizing the audience with the theoretical framework for corporate social responsibility and business ethics, addressing the issues of its practical application, and exploring its contributions and limitations to the society.

Civil Society Day 2011

On 19 September, 2011 Civil Society Day was celebrated, this year it was dedicated to CS Day Flash mob20th anniversary of RA Independence. The idea to celebrate Civil Society Day and thus set up a new annual holiday was initiated by Civic Development and Partnership Foundation and to implement this initiative in 2009 fisrt time ever in Armenia the Civil Society Day was marked. The objective of the Civil Society Day celebration was to give a birth to a new tradition and to disseminate the idea of civil society in Armenia.

In 2009 the festive events included “Civil Society through My Eyes” photo-contest, film and PSA presentation, press conference and concert. In 2010 festive events were devoted to volunteerism since it is one of the cornerstones of civil society which is aimed at promoting active civic participation. More than 20 organizations were presented with their volunteer programs; volunteer march and a concert were organized.

This year the Civil Society Day was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of RA Independence. The events were organized during previous 3 days. Thus on 17 September, in Northern Avenue of Yerevan city a FlashMob was organized dedicated to Civil Society. On 18 September in Vanadzor city photo and essay contest and concert were organized. And on 19 September, 2011 a press conference dedicated to Civil Society Day celebration was held at "Erebuni Plaza" business center, "902 hall".

CS Day Flash mobIn close collaboration with FlashMob Division cofounders CDPF has organized a FlashMob on civil society. 57 young and enthusiastic people participated in FlashMob. With colored boxes they built a “Wall” in northern Avenue with the following message on it» Let’s Build Civil Society”. This initiative aims to show that each of us can have his/her invaluable input in the process of civil society development. The FlashMob dedicated to civil society brought a great attention and was warmly accepted by the passengers, thus gathering more than 1000 people.

Photo, essay contest and a concert in Vanadzor dedicated to Civil Society Day:

The Civil Society Day celebration was continued in Vanadzor city, where a photo and an essay contest on civil society were organized. There was also film and PSA presentation which was concluded with a concert.

Press Conference dedicated to Civil Society Day.

On 19 September, 2011 a press conference was organized at “Erebuni Plaza” business CS Day Press Conferencecenter “902 hall”, the aim of which was to present the achievements and developments of the civil society sector in the past 20 years of RA Independence. The speakers at the press conference were Armen Alaverdyan - President of "Unison" NGO, Astghik Avetisyan - Director of "Armenian PR Association" NGO, Arzuman Harutyunyan - Director of "Audio-Visual Reporters' Association" NGO, David Chityan - Director of Civic Development and Partnership Foundation and Sona Ayvazyan - Head of Transparency International anticorruption center. Each speaker presented his/her sectoral developments, achievements, problems met and the successes achieved. Then, the speakers answered the reporters’ questions. CDPF Director David Chityan has summarized the press conference, the speakers speeches and presented the legislative process of the civil society sector. 13 representatives of online media were present at the press conference. Later they widely covered the event.

CS Day VolunteersDuring the organisational process an invaluable input have made more than 60 volunteers of Civic Development and Partnership Foundation, Kasa foundation, FlashMob Division. The event was supported by Jinishian Memorial Foundation, Kasa Foundation, “Internews” NGO, FlashMob Division, “Audio-visual reporters’ association” NGO and other organizations and individuals.

CDPF team expresses its deepest gratitude to all volunteers and partners, participants and guests for their support and interest which made real the celebration of Civil Society Day.
